Key Applications of Titanium Tubes in Spandex Production

Jul. 01, 2026

The production of spandex (polyurethane elastic fiber) involves multiple complex processes, often using highly corrosive media, and the reaction conditions involve high temperatures and pressures, placing extremely high demands on the corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and reliability of the equipment and materials. Titanium and titanium alloy fittings, with their excellent corrosion resistance, good thermal stability, and fatigue resistance, play an irreplaceable role in the entire spandex production process. The following is a systematic description of their main application scenarios.

Key Applications of Titanium Tubes in Spandex Production

I. Internal components of polymerization reactor

Polymerization is the core link in spandex production and is usually carried out under high temperature, high pressure and strong polar solvent environment. Titanium pipe fittings (including pipes, flanges, valves and connecting fasteners) are widely used inside reactors. They can resist the chemical erosion of reaction media (such as diisocyanates, polyols and chain extenders) for a long time, and at the same time withstand repeated heating and cooling thermal cycles, ensuring long-term stable operation of the reactor.

II.heat exchanger assembly

The polymerization reaction and subsequent degassing and curing processes all require precise temperature control, and the heat exchanger frequently comes into contact with corrosive heat or cooling media. Heat exchange tubes, tube sheets, and end caps made of titanium combine high thermal conductivity with corrosion resistance, effectively extending equipment maintenance cycles and preventing production interruptions due to leaks.

III.Process material conveying pipeline

From raw monomers and polymerization solutions to spinning dopes, materials need to be transferred between different stages via pipelines. Titanium pipe fittings are used in these conveying systems to resist the chemical corrosion of solvents (such as DMAC and DMF) and unreacted monomers, while maintaining a smooth inner wall, reducing polymer deposition, and ensuring unobstructed flow channels for continuous production.

IV.Spinning components

The spinning process extrudes a high-viscosity polymer solution into fibers through a spinneret. If the guide tube, distribution plate and sealing components in the spinning assembly are made of titanium, it can take advantage of the smooth surface and the fact that it does not easily adsorb gel particles, and it can also help maintain the stability of the extrusion pressure, thereby improving the uniformity and appearance quality of the yarn and reducing the breakage rate.

V.Filtration system connectors

To remove insoluble impurities and gels from the polymerization solution, corrosion-resistant pipes and fittings are required before and after the filtration unit. Titanium fittings do not react with the filtrate, do not introduce metal ion contamination, and can withstand pressure fluctuations during backwashing operations, ensuring long-term stability of filtration accuracy.

VI.Accessory piping for storage tanks and transport containers

In the production of spandex, various intermediate storage tanks, solvent recovery tanks, and finished product tanks often use titanium for their inlet and outlet ports, level gauge interfaces, and safety valve connection pipes to resist the trace corrosion that the medium may produce during storage, ensuring the safety of hazardous chemical storage and the purity of materials.

VII.Waste liquid recovery and monomer reuse system

Unreacted monomers, washing waste liquid, and distillation residues must be treated by a recycling system. Titanium fittings maintain stable mechanical properties and corrosion resistance margins even in such harsh chemical environments (which may contain acids, alkalis, and high-temperature steam), strongly supporting the implementation of green recycling processes.

Key Applications of Titanium Tubes in Spandex Production

In summary, the application of titanium tubing spans the entire spandex production chain, from raw material preparation to finished product spinning. This not only directly improves equipment reliability and product quality but also provides material support for extending maintenance cycles and reducing maintenance costs. As spandex processes develop towards higher efficiency and greater flexibility, the depth and breadth of titanium material applications are expected to expand further.
